2023-2024 Season and Auditions

For the 2023-2024 season at Third Presbyterian Church, we will continue to comply with the current safety guidelines as proposed by the CDC, the PA Department of Health, and the Allegheny Health Department, as well as the safety guidelines implemented by Third Presbyterian Church and the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh’s COVID-19 policies.  Please know that we will update this website and send out communications when and if the situation changes.

Note:  The Mendelssohn Choir and Junior Mendelssohn Choir requires all singers and staff to be fully vaccinated (at minimum, full vaccination plus one booster).  You will be asked to present proof of vaccination via photo or scan should you be accepted into the choir.

Auditions:

In-person audition dates for the upcoming 2023-2024 season are Monday, May 15, 2023, 4-8pm and Monday, July 31, 2023, 1-5pm.  We will also accept virtual auditions.

All interested in auditioning must fill out this audition form.

All auditionees MUST:

  • Bring one audition piece, either a capella or with piano accompaniment.  Please choose a song from the classical realm, i.e., an art song, opera aria, etc., NOTHING THAT REQUIRES BELTING.  Your audition selection should be in a three-ring binder (or a book) for our accompanist.
  • Be prepared to sing your voice part in this short choral Audition Excerpt (O große lieb).. Students may choose to sing in either German or English.
  • Be prepared to exhibit your vocal range with a short exercise.
  • FOR VIRTUAL AUDITIONS ONLY: Record yourself singing your audition section and the audition excerpt, and upload this video to an unlisted YouTube link.

2023-2024 Rehearsal and Performance Dates

As always, rehearsal and performance dates are subject to change.

All rehearsals, the retreat, and the performance will be held at Third Presbyterian Church, 5701 Fifth Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15232.

Rehearsals will be held MONDAY NIGHTS at Third Presbyterian Church from 6:30pm-9pm, unless otherwise indicated.

Season retreat: Sunday, August 27 – 1:00pm-5:00pm

August 28 – 6:30-9pm
September 11, 18, 25 – 6:30-9pm
October 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 – 6:30-9pm. NOTE: October 9 will be held at Calvary Episcopal Church in Shadyside.
November 6 6:30-9pm
Dress rehearsal: Thursday, November 9 – 6:30-9pm
Concert: Sunday, November 12 – 4pm

Dress rehearsal w/Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra: Sunday, November 5 – 6pm at Heinz Hall
Concert w/Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra: Sunday, November 19 – 7pm at Heinz Hall
