Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh featured guests with Andrea Bocelli in concert
The Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh (MCP)’s 110th season just keeps getting better! Shortly before the end of our last successful season, including two sold out performances of The Times They Are A’ Changin: The Words and Music of Bob Dylan with composer/conductor Steve Hackman, we got the call. Grammy-nominated and legendary tenor Andrea Bocelli was performing in Pittsburgh at PPG Paints Arena on Saturday, December 8 – and the MCP had been chosen as the choir to back this international star! This was Bocelli’s first time back in Pittsburgh after 20 years. Tickets to this concert were virtually sold out since early November.
“What a thrill to have the opportunity to collaborate with Andrea Bocelli, Nadine Sierra, and Pia Toscano. The musicians of the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh make it so easy and stress-free with their commitment to excellence and professionalism. It is such a treat to get to work with the MCP.” From Ryan Keeling, MCP assistant conductor, who prepared the choir for this event with some of Bocelli’s signature songs and holiday favorites.
“It’s an exciting time for us,” said MCP executive director Mary Ann Lapinski. “We are thrilled to have received this special honor, and it’s the icing on the cake to our already jam-packed holiday season. We hope we again represented our hometown well.”
