Click for The Promise of Light Program

In December, MCP will present its first concert of the season, The Promise of Light. To spread the message of hope as far and wide as possible, MCP will perform The Promise of Light free of charge to all who wish to attend. Drawing from the wealth of music and poetry about winter, the solstice, and the holidays, this concert will feature dynamic choral arrangements of popular songs by beloved artists such as Fleet Foxes, Carol King, and Dolly Parton, alongside breathtaking music from well-known choral composers (Randall Thompson, Ēriks Ešenvalds) and new voices in choral music (Melissa Dunphy and Georgia Stitt). Interposed with the music, audiences will hear reflections and poetry on the beauty of new beginnings from the likes of Robert Frost, Ogden Nash, Mary Oliver, Amy Gerstler, Margaret Atwood, and Joseph Campbell.

Free admission to The Promise of Light is made possible by the generosity of the Jack Buncher Foundation and Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield. Registration is encouraged to guarantee a seat, and charitable donations are also encouraged to sustain MCP’s programming and to keep live music thriving in our community.

Proof of vaccination is required for entry to all concerts. Children under 12 and guests who need reasonable accommodations due to a medical exception or a sincerely held religious belief must provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test within the last 72 hours. Masks will be required of all patrons whenever Allegheny County is in the CDC’s “substantial” or “high” community transmission levels (which, as of today, it currently is).
