Mahler’s Resurrection

The Mendelssohn Choir and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, with soloists Christina Landshamer and Gerhild Romberger, under the direction of PSO Music Director Manfred Honeck, bring Gustav Mahler‘s epic Symphony No. 2 to Heinz Hall. Not long after completing Symphony No. 2, Mahler said, “The term ‘symphony’ means creating a world with all the technical means available.”  Written between 1888 and 1894, Symphony No. 2 was the first major work in which Mahler establishes his view of death and the afterlife, and was his most popular and successful work in his lifetime.
