The Mendelssohn Choir and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, with soloists Christina Landshamer and Gerhild Romberger, under the direction of PSO Music Director Manfred Honeck, bring Gustav Mahler‘s epic Symphony No. 2 to Heinz Hall. Not long after completing Symphony No. 2, Mahler said, “The term ‘symphony’ means creating a world with all the technical means available.” ¬†Written between 1888 and 1894, Symphony No. 2 was the first major work in which Mahler establishes his view of death and the afterlife, and was his most popular and successful work in his lifetime.
