The Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh‘s 2015-2016 season opens with a performance of Maurice Duruflé‘s soulful Requiem, conducted by Music Director Betsy Burleigh. Duruflé completed the Requiem in 1947, and dedicated the piece to the memory of his father. He incorporated themes from Gregorian chant into the Requiem, with an emphasis on the Gregorian “Mass for the Dead.” The performance also includes Duruflé‘s Quatres Motets, as well as his music for solo organ, which will be performed by East Liberty Presbyterian Church‘s Organist and Music Director, Dr. Edward Alan Moore. This concert marks Betsy Burleigh’s final performance as Music Director of the Mendelssohn Choir.
