Beethoven’s “Fidelio”

The Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra perform a concert version of Ludwig van Beethoven's opera Fidelio, conducted by PSO Music Director Manfred Honeck.  Fidelio is Beethoven's only opera, and tells the story of Leonore, disguised as a prison guard named Fidelio, saves her husband who is unjustly imprisoned for political crimes....

Handel’s Messiah

The Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of conductor Osmo Vänskä, present a special one-night only performance of Handel's Messiah.  Composed in 1741, it was first performed in Dublin in April 1742.  Though it received a modest reaction from audiences at first, Messiah has now become one of the best-known and performed choral works....
