The Junior Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh, in its 30th season, presents Brahms' Zigeunerlieder: Gypsy Songs, under the direction of Stephen Neely.  Composed in 1887, Brahms' Zigeunerlieder were published in 1888.  The texts are from Hungarian Gypsy songs translated by Hugo Conrat.  Brahms learned the characteristics of Hungarian Gypsy music from the Hungarian-born violinist Eduard Hoffmann, but modified the original Gypsy melodies, maintaining only their spirit, as opposed...
